WHO WE ARE

Background
Sompriti began in April 2000, arising from the Black and minority ethnic research project in the Lewes District. It is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.

Sompriti works throughout East Sussex. We also undertake partnership projects in other areas of South East England. In the national context we are known for our expertise in working in semi-rural areas.

Objectives
From our constitution, our charitable objects are:

‘To promote any charitable purpose of ethnic minority people and their families in England and Wales (especially rural and semi-rural areas); these purposes may include but are not limited to advancing education; working towards eliminating racial and related discrimination; promoting equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different ethnic groups; and empowering ethnic minority people to develop capacity and skills to identify and help meet their needs and to participate fully in society.’
